Guy Renner-Thompson, Conservative Candidate for Mayor of the North East which stretches from Bishop Auckland to Berwick-upon-Tweed, said:
'Families and businesses will be dismayed to see prominent Labour MP’s from across the region cracking open the fizz with union chiefs while their own Christmas plans are is chaos due to these inconsiderate rail strikes.
'First they have made driving into city centres impossible by clogging up our streets with cycle lanes, ‘low traffic areas’ and clean air zones, now they're supporting the stopping of train services at the busiest time of year.
'It's typical of Labour MPs to be pouring bubbly and celebrating while the real workers are left struggling.'
